Privacy Policy

Effective 27 May 2026 · Version 2026-05-27

This Privacy Policy explains how MemeDrop ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website at memedrop.fun and our Android mobile application (together, the "Service").

1. Who is responsible

MemeDrop is the data controller for personal data processed through the Service. Contact: support@memedrop.fun.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account data: username, email address, password (stored as a secure hash), profile photo, and bio.
  • Content: posts (captions, images, videos), comments, likes, and follows.
  • Support: information you send when contacting us.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage and device data: app interactions, pages viewed, timestamps, and technical logs needed to run the Service.
  • Analytics: we use Google Analytics 4 on the web and Firebase Analytics in the Android app to understand how the Service is used (e.g. sign-ups, posts, likes). These tools may collect device identifiers, app version, and event data. See Google's privacy documentation for how they process data.
  • Advertising (mobile app): Google AdMob may collect device advertising IDs and usage data to show and measure ads. You can limit ad personalisation in your device settings.
  • Push notifications: if you allow notifications, we store a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token linked to your account to send alerts about new posts from people you follow.
  • Cookies and sessions (web): we use session cookies to keep you logged in.

3. How we use information

We use personal data to:

  • Create and manage your account;
  • Display feeds, profiles, comments, and shared posts;
  • Send push notifications you have enabled;
  • Operate moderation, security, and abuse prevention (including admin tools such as user bans);
  • Measure and improve the Service through analytics;
  • Show advertisements in the mobile app;
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms & Conditions.

4. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Contract: to provide the Service you sign up for;
  • Legitimate interests: security, analytics, improving the product, and preventing abuse;
  • Consent: where required for analytics/advertising cookies or optional marketing;
  • Legal obligation: when the law requires us to retain or disclose data.

5. How we share information

  • Other users: your username, profile, posts, and comments are visible to other users according to how the Service works (including public post links).
  • Service providers: hosting, email delivery, Google (Analytics, Firebase, AdMob), and infrastructure partners who process data on our instructions.
  • Legal and safety: when required by law or to protect users, our rights, or the public.
  • Business transfers: if we merge, sell, or reorganise the Service, data may transfer as part of that transaction with appropriate safeguards.

We do not sell your personal information.

6. Data retention

We keep account and content data while your account is active. If you delete content or close your account, we delete or anonymise data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it for legal, security, or backup reasons.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data, including hashed passwords and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

8. International transfers

Our servers and providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, email support@memedrop.fun. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

10. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

11. Third-party links

The Service may link to third-party sites or content. Their privacy practices are not covered by this policy.

12. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the new version here and update the effective date. Material changes may require renewed acceptance.
